Tummy Tuck / Abdominoplasty

Refining your Silhouette

A flat and well-toned tummy is a goal that many women and men strive for through exercise, diet and weight control. Despite one's best efforts, the goal of a flat and toned tummy is not achieved. There may be loose skin and skin rolls that do not improve, fat deposits on the front and love handles (sides or flanks) that just will not go away despite all your efforts at exercise and diet.

In these situations, a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty may be recommended to achieve your goals. A tummy tuck recontours the abdomen by removing loose skin, stretch marks, fat bulges and repairs the abdominal muscles. This restores the abdomen to a more normal flat contour that is better proportioned to your body type and weight

PERFECT PROCEDURE:

·   To tight the abdominal muscles/fascia that may have become stretched out or lax over time.

·    To remove the effects of pregnancy on the abdomen.

·    To removes stretch marks or scars that may be in the area.

·    To removes the excess skin.

·    To have a top model tummy.

·    To solve preexisting problems, such as hernias or eventrations.

HOW WILL THE PROCEDURE BE PERFORMED?
An incision will be made from one hipbone to the other in the area above the pubic region and another one to allow the navel to detach from the surrounding tissue, but the incision size will depend on how much skin needs to be removed.

The skin is separated from the abdominal wall and the abdominal muscles are tightened by pulling them closer together and stitching them into that pulled position. By tightening the abdominal muscles it can narrow the waistline even more by resulting in a firmer abdominal wall. The muscles are exposed when the surgeons make a skin flap that is later stretched down with the extra skin removed. Since the location of your belly button is moved during a tummy tuck surgery, a new hole is cut to re-stitch the belly button into place.

A scar will result from the tummy tuck that extends across the lower part of the abdomen and in some cases around the belly button.

ANESTHESIA
Local anaesthesia and complementary sedation, or general anaesthesia

SURGERY LENGTH
Between 2 and 3 hours

RECOVERY
Following your surgery, dressings or bandages will be applied to your incisions, and you will be wrapped in an elastic bandage or a compression garment to minimize swelling and to support your abdomen as it heals.

A small, thin tube may be temporarily placed under the skin to drain any excess blood or fluid that may collect.

You will have to rest at the hotel for 7 to 10 days. If you are in top physical condition, recovery will be much faster.

Try to start walking as soon as possible.
Sexual activity should be avoided for a minimum of two weeks.
The inflammation is moderate and will remain for some days.

Your tummy tuck will result in a flatter, firmer abdominal contour that is more proportionate with your body type and weight.

The final results may be initially obscured by swelling and your inability to stand fully upright until internal healing is complete.

Within a week or two, you should be standing tall and confident about your new slimmer profile.

PAIN
For the first few days, your abdomen will probably be swollen and you're likely to feel some pain and discomfort which can be controlled by medication.

REMOVAL OF THE STITCHES
Surgeon will remove the stitches between 10 to 12 days after the surgery.

BRUISES AND SWELLING
It is not usual for bruises to develop.

SCARS
The resulting scar runs from hip to hip, following the outline of a bikini.
The abdominal scars will appear to worsen during the first three to six months, and may take nine months before they flatten and lighten in color.
The scars never completely disappear, but they are located to be easily hidden by clothing.

SCARS TREATMENT:  AFTER TUMMY TUCK
Patients dislike their scars for a number of reasons. Our medical team will make every effort to make your scars as inconspicuous as possible. Still, it's important to remember that tummy tuck scars are permanent. Fortunately, the scars can usually be placed so that you can wear even low-cut tops.

Our health care specialists have many tools at their disposal to reduce and treat scars from every part of the body through special scar removal techniques.
A fter your surgery we will offer you a free consultation with one of our health care specialists in laser treatment.
Laser treatment will help you to reduce the appearance of scars by 70 to 80 percent and  prevent their recurrence.
According to your skin quality, the laser scar removal technique will prevent the appearance of keloid scars, hypertrophic scars, or atrophic scars, which have the following characteristics:
- Keloid Scarring: Firm, raised, and reddish-purple scars that extend beyond the initial wound area and builds over time.
- Hypertrophic Scarring: Firm, raised, and pink scars that remain within the initial wound area and possibly naturally regress over time.
- Atrophic Scarring: Depressed pin-like pockets in the skin that can result from skin conditions or diseases such as acne. .

What should I expect during the Post-Operative period after a Tummy Tuck?

You will be wearing an abdominal binder underneath your clothing to support your abdomen for about 2 weeks. After surgery, there will be 2 drains in the pubic area to prevent fluid accumulation. The drains are removed in about 1 week. When sleeping, several pillows will need to be placed underneath your back to keep your hips at a 45 degree angle. A pillow underneath the knee is also helpful. Patients are encouraged to get up and walk immediately. You may walk bent over for a few days and gradually you will straighten up and walk upright. Most patients take 7 to 10 days off work. Driving is usually resumed in 5 to 7 days. Light exercise in 2 to 3 weeks. Heavy lifting is not allowed for 3 weeks.

My Result after a Tummy Tuck

You will see your new abdominal contour and profile the next day after the surgery. The swelling will continue to resolve and the final result will appear in a few weeks to a few months. Any numbness of the abdominal skin will continue to improve over months and up to 1 year after the surgery. The incision will continue to heal over a year or more. Scar creams will be recommended to improve the final appearance of the scar.

Your new abdominal contour and profile should be permanent as long as your general weight and general fitness are maintained. Future pregnancy may affect the long term result. As your body ages, there may be some loss of the firmness although this is usually minimal. The majority of patients are very happy with the results of the procedure in restoring their abdomen to a flatter and more toned and normal appearance.
